We Met

In the frenzy of fall midterms there are only a few viable options on campus where students can set up shop for late night cram sessions. The iLab is packed. UGL is 18 and up. But the Health Sciences Library... serious studiers live here. So when Sudan was running late to meet up with a classmate one night in 2010, he was surprised to see an undergraduate sitting in his usual seat. Knowing his study buddy was very particular about his routine he thought this girl must be of some significance---"Who are you?"
His question was short and to the point, although she was the broadcast journalism major who somehow managed to find her way into the land of future doctors, dentists, and druggists. Alyssa was friendly, talkative, and what Sudan would later learn to be on fire for Jesus Christ. Their first conversation traveled from her time as a military child in Virginia Beach, where Sudan was raised, to her first true encounter with the Lord as a sophomore. Sudan knew there was something special about her, but it wasn't more important than his first semester of pharmacy school. Besides, he was in a relationship and Alyssa was in the middle of a one year commitment to singleness.

Though it took him a year to take her up on her invitation to church, he eventually made his way. Over time he began to grow significantly in his faith and by the grace of God the same flame he saw in Alyssa allowing her to be bold for Christ began burning in him. It was as if God knew that if they were to be together, their passion for Him needed to be set to the right temperature in order to bring to completion what He intended all along.

Fast forward four years and God's plan for a friendship that started in the books began to blossom into a testament of His divine order, faithfulness, and desire to be known in this generation. Unbeknownst to her, Sudan began to ask God if He had more in store for them. The Sunday after Howard Homecoming of 2014, the opportunity Sudan had been praying for arrived and he asked Alyssa into a courtship. Trusting God they moved forward, seeking Him together.
